One of the key tenets of many moving processes involves finding ways to conserve space, and consolidating large collections of items is a major part of this goal. One great example that many people deal with during these situations: An abundance of clothes hangers. What to do with these bulky, often hard-to-store items when you’re moving to a new location?
At Tru Solutions Moving, we’re happy to help with any and all Salt Lake City moving needs, including both residential moves and commercial or office moves. We help clients consolidate all sorts of items during our various moving services, hangers definitely among them. Whether on your own or with help from our movers, here are some simple hacks for moving lots of hangers from one place to another.
What Kinds of Hangers Are Present?
Firstly, you’ll want to assess the kinds of hangers you have. Plastic, wood, or metal? Dry-cleaners’ wire hangers? Different materials require different approaches for packing and moving.
More specifically, certain types of hangers are more conducive to simple storage and moving than others. Bendable hangers, for instance, are much easier to deal with than more rigid ones, as they can be coiled up and tied together with a piece of string or wire. Evaluate your entire hanger stash to determine which types of hangers are the easiest to handle.
Create a Packing Plan
Once you have your hangers sorted, you can create an effective plan for packing and moving them. Depending on the quantity and type of hangers you need to move, there are several creative solutions that can help make this task much more manageable.
For starters, you can use a large garbage bag as an all-in-one container for your hangers – simply thread each one through the handle of the bag to create a neat bundle that’s easy to carry and store. Alternatively, if you have plastic or bendable hangers, try rolling them up and tying them together with string or wire. This is a great way to keep your hangers together while also saving space in your van, truck, or trailer.
Watch the Weight
Whichever solution you utilize for storing and moving your hangers, it’s important to always keep in mind the weight of what you’re carrying. A heavy bundle of hangers can quickly add up and become a backbreaking burden on any move. With that in mind, be sure to balance out your loads when carrying and transporting large quantities of clothes hangers.
Hangers may seem like they weigh basically nothing individually, but you might be surprised by how much a bundle can weigh. By distributing their total weight across multiple bags, containers, or trips to the truck, you’ll ensure that your hangers reach their destination in one piece – and with minimal effort on your part.
Label Different Hanger Collections
If you have multiple different hanger types and are separating them as part of your packing plan, be sure to label each collection clearly. Many people opt to use colored duct tape for this purpose – simply wrap the bundle in a certain color and write its contents on the outside. This makes it easy to grab the right set of hangers quickly and efficiently when you reach your final destination.
Not only this, but labeling hangers makes organization of your entire move much simpler. You’ll know exactly which boxes to open or bags to unpack in search of your hangers, without having to dig and sort through dozens of different containers.
Hanger Unpacking Tips
What about once you’ve arrived at your new destination? Unpacking hangers requires a slightly different set of strategies. Again, labeling your boxes or containers is the key to successfully unpacking and setting up a closet full of hangers in your new home.
If you went for the garbage bag approach during packing, start by untying the bundle and then threading each individual hanger through the handle. This way, you’ll have a neat stack of hangers ready to go in your closet or wardrobe once it’s unpacked and set up. For any other type of hanger, simply unpack each bundle and hang them on a closet rod or clothing rack as soon as possible. This will prevent any damage or creases to your hangers that can occur when they are left to sit in a box or bag.
No matter what type of moving process you’re dealing with, the right approach to packing and unpacking clothes hangers will make all the difference. Utilize these strategies and tips to ensure that your next move is as efficient and hassle-free as possible.
