Winter moving tips: how to prepare properly

While you are looking to move somewhere new, there are a lot of different factors that you must consider. You must consider things such as your home location, work commute, distance from essential businesses, education options, and weather that the area experiences. One of the most important considerations is the weather that your chosen area experiences during the different parts of the year. This is important because if you are going to a new place with weather conditions that are entirely new to you, you will need to be prepared.

Each season can cause its issues while attempting to move locations, but winter can be one of the worst. If you are from or moving to Utah, you probably already know that our winters can be quite difficult. The state is susceptible to heavy snowfall in many areas, so that must be taken into consideration if you are moving into or out of the state during the winter. Tru Solutions Moving has plenty of winter moving experience, so we wanted to share our winter moving tips with you!

Winter moving tips

Bundle up

If you have scheduled a winter move, you should probably already know this. You do not want to get sick by not bundling up, so be sure to wear plenty of layers. While you are hustling to get everything finished, your body can become too cold and likely to get frostbite. It is a good idea to bundle your family up as well. No one wants to start out sick during your first few days in your new home.

Plan for delays

Unfortunately, moving in winter has some downsides. One of these downsides is the unpredictable nature of weather conditions. One moment the skies could be clear and bright, and the next snow could start falling and make your move a lot harder. You must also consider that it gets dark very early in the winter, usually around 5pm depending on your location. These factors naturally make delays a big possibility, so always be sure to plan for extra time in the chance that they happen.

Make sure it is safe

Out of all our winter moving tips, this is the most important. You should strive to keep your moving experience the safest that it can be. Ice and snow conditions can increase chances of slipping and falling, which can lead to severe injuries. We recommend shoveling any snow and putting salt on any ice so that your family and movers are less likely to be injured. All it takes is one fall for your moving day to end in a hospital visit, so be sure to prepare your home accordingly.

Keep hot drinks ready

When you get cold during your moving adventure, you are likely going to want something warm to keep you going. It is a great idea to have warm containers full of coffee, hot chocolate, cider, or other warms drinks available for you, your family, and your movers to enjoy throughout the day. Your movers will appreciate this kind gesture very much as it will give them a nice break to warm up and recharge so they can finish the job strong.

Have blankets available

This goes back to the point about staying warm during the day, but blankets also have other uses during your moving day adventure. Blankets can be used to cover your prized possessions in the event of a downpour of snow or rain. They will help prevent water damage to your possessions while also providing warmth when it is needed.
